"The Smile" Chinese people have migrated to Cambodia since the 13th century. They have brought with them business acumen as well as their traditional customs. During the many generations of integration with Khmer people, some of their traditional practices have been lost, particularly those practices such as patriarchy, that are contrary to Cambodian traditions. As the concept of patriarchy reduces in strength, women from the Chinese ethnic minority groups have a greater opportunity to exercise their rights, secure their future and play a greater role in family decision making, thus enabling them to feel a greater sense of self-worth and a play a more value role in the family.
