New Developments In Phnom Penh
Phnom Penh, Cambodia -- What an incredible city! I was wandering through the sound of silence while residing in Phnom Penh in 1980 or 1981. I remember sleeping on the pavement of an empty street winding through the not-quite-yet inhabitted city. Once in awhile, there would be a car or truck rumbling through, forcing me to wake up from my sleep. Most of the tall buildings were unoccupied, friends and I would play war with sling shots. When we need to do manly businesses, these tall buildings became our bathrooms, we pooped and peed inside them. What did we know? We were kids and there were good times to be had and we took advantage of that as any kid would. Nowadays, it seems this once quiet as a ghost town is buzzyingly with daily acitivities. One day, I shall return to my playgrounds, understanding I can not reclaim what was lost.
